The purpose of this Privacy Policy is to explain how ScanMaster Home ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") manages and processes information when the App is used.
ScanMaster Home is an Android application that provides barcode and QR code scanning, OCR text recognition, document scanning and PDF generation, home screen launcher functionality, and related utility features. Depending on the version and feature configuration, the App may provide camera-based barcode and QR code scanning, text recognition from images, document digitization, PDF creation and viewing, scan history management, home screen and launcher-related features, and other productivity functions.
1. Information Processed
We process only the information that is reasonably required to operate, maintain, protect, improve, and monetize the App.
1.1 Device and Technical Information
In order to operate, protect, maintain, and enhance the App, we may automatically obtain and handle certain technical information generated by your device and system environment. This may include, for example, your device model, operating system version, app version, language and region settings, network status, diagnostic data, crash and performance information, push-related technical identifiers, advertising identifiers such as GAID, and basic app event data.
This information is used to support the proper functioning of the App, evaluate performance and stability, identify and correct technical problems, enhance features and overall user experience, enable analytics and attribution, reduce fraud or misuse, and support advertising management and remote configuration.
1.2 Camera and Image Information
Because the App provides barcode scanning, QR code scanning, and document scanning features, it requires access to your device camera and may process image data.
This includes:
- Real-time camera preview frames for barcode/QR code detection and OCR text recognition;
- Photos captured for document scanning, text extraction, or PDF generation;
- Images imported from your gallery for scanning or recognition purposes.
Camera data and image processing are performed locally on your device.
1.3 Scan History and Result Information
When you scan a barcode, QR code, or document, the App may store scan results locally on your device, including:
- Decoded barcode/QR code content (URLs, text, contact information, Wi-Fi credentials, etc.);
- OCR-recognized text content;
- Generated PDF documents from document scans;
- Timestamps, scan type, and other metadata associated with scan records.
Scan history is stored locally on your device to provide history browsing, search, and management features.
1.4 File and Storage Information
If you use document scanning, PDF generation, or file export features, the App may access and process file and storage-related information on your device, such as file paths, file sizes, and storage availability.
This information is used solely to support functions such as saving scanned documents, generating PDF files, exporting scan results, and managing stored files.
The processing of such information is performed locally on your device.
1.5 Settings and Preference Information
The App may store necessary settings and preference information locally on your device, such as scan preferences (e.g., auto-flash, vibration feedback, sound alerts), display preferences, default export format, and similar settings.
This information is used to save your personalized choices, maintain continuity of functionality, and improve your overall user experience.

2. Collection of Information
We collect information through the following methods:
2.1 Information You Provide
- Scanning Actions: When you point the camera at a barcode, QR code, or document, we process the camera feed to detect and decode the content.
- Gallery Import: When you select images from your gallery for scanning or recognition, we process those selected images.
- Document Scanning: When you capture document pages for PDF generation, we process the captured images.
- Export and Share: When you choose to export or share scan results, we facilitate the sharing through system mechanisms.
2.2 Automatically Collected Data
To enable the App’s core functionality, certain information is processed automatically during use. For example, the App analyzes camera preview frames in real time in order to identify and decode barcodes and QR codes. This processing is limited to real-time detection, and we do not record or upload your camera feed.
The App also automatically collects certain device and operational information, such as device identifiers (for example, GAID), operating system version, crash logs, and performance data. We use this information to maintain compatibility across different device models and to diagnose and resolve crash-related issues.
2.3 Information from Third-Party SDKs and Services
The App uses SDKs provided by selected third-party partners to support certain operational and commercial functions. These SDKs are used, among other things, to help us analyze where users come from and how often particular features are used, as well as to enable the display of advertisements in a manner intended to be non-intrusive.

3. Purposes of Processing
We process information for the following purposes:
- To provide, operate, maintain, and improve the App and its features;
- To support barcode scanning, QR code scanning, OCR text recognition, document scanning, PDF generation, and related utility functions;
- To ensure security, stability, performance, troubleshooting, and fraud prevention;
- To remember your settings, preferences, and local configurations for a more consistent user experience; and
- Where applicable, to support analytics, attribution, advertising, monetization, and performance measurement.
4. Permissions and Access
The App may request access to certain device permissions depending on your Android version and the functions you choose to use. These permissions are used only in connection with the relevant features described below.
4.1 Camera Permission
The App may request the android.permission.CAMERA permission in order to use your device camera for barcode and QR code scanning, document image capture for OCR text recognition, and document page capture for PDF generation and digitization. It may also be used to support flashlight or torch functionality during scanning in low-light conditions.
Any camera data used for these functions is processed locally on your device. We do not record, retain, or transmit your live camera feed or captured images to our servers. Camera access is used only while you are actively using scanning-related features within the App.
If you choose not to grant camera access, real-time barcode and QR code scanning and document capture features will not be available. However, you may still be able to use image-based scanning through gallery import.
You can turn off camera permission at any time by going to Settings > Apps > This App > Permissions.
4.2 File and Storage Access Permissions
Depending on your Android version, the App may request access to file and storage-related permissions, including android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, and android.permission.READ_MEDIA_IMAGES on Android 13 and above.
These permissions may be used to import images from your gallery for barcode or QR code scanning and OCR recognition, to save scanned documents, generated PDFs, and exported scan results to device storage, and to access previously saved scan documents for viewing or further processing.
We access files only where necessary to provide scanning, recognition, document generation, storage, and export functions. We do not upload your personal documents, photos, or other private file content to our servers. Access to files is limited to actions initiated by you, such as importing, saving, or exporting content.
If you do not grant these permissions, the App may be unable to import gallery images, save generated PDFs, or export scan results to device storage. Core camera-based scanning functions will still remain available.
You can disable these permissions at any time under Settings > Apps > This App > Permissions.
4.3 Vibration Permission
The App may use the android.permission.VIBRATE permission to provide haptic feedback when a barcode or QR code has been successfully scanned.
This permission is used only to improve the user experience through tactile response. It does not involve the collection of personal information.
4.4 Flashlight Permission
Where applicable, the App may rely on android.permission.FLASHLIGHT to turn on the device flashlight or torch during scanning so that barcodes or documents can be illuminated in low-light environments.
This permission is used only to control the relevant hardware for scanning assistance. No personal information is collected through this permission.
4.5 Internet and Network Permissions
The App may use android.permission.INTERNET and android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE for limited network-related purposes. These include displaying advertisements through integrated advertising SDKs, transmitting analytics and crash reporting data to help improve app stability, supporting attribution and anti-fraud functions, and determining network availability before carrying out operations that depend on an internet connection.
Such network access is used only for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. The App’s core scanning, recognition, and PDF generation functions can operate offline and do not require network access.
4.6 Advertising ID Permission
Where relevant advertising or attribution services are integrated, the App may use the com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID permission.
This permission may be used to assess advertising performance and installation conversion, detect and prevent fraud, abnormal traffic, or invalid clicks, and improve the analysis and effectiveness of promotional activities.
Use of the advertising identifier is limited to these purposes and will be carried out in accordance with applicable platform requirements and the relevant terms of this Privacy Policy.
6. Data Storage and Protection
Information generated through the App’s scanning, recognition, and document-related functions is primarily processed and stored locally on your device. This includes items such as scan history, generated PDF files, and recognition results. We do not transfer this data to cloud servers.
Where information is processed by third-party SDK providers, including analytics or advertising partners, the protection of that information is governed by the respective provider’s own privacy practices and policies.
You remain in control of your device-level access settings and may revoke permissions at any time through your device settings. You may also clear the App’s data or remove the App entirely from your device.
7. Data Retention
Data stored locally through the App, including scan history and generated documents, will remain on your device until you choose to delete it manually or uninstall the App.
Technical and analytics information collected through third-party SDKs is retained in accordance with the retention rules and policies of those respective providers. The same applies to advertising-related information processed by advertising partners.
8. Uninstallation and Data Effects
8.1 App Uninstallation
You may remove the App through your device settings. Open Settings on your device, navigate to Apps > App Management (or a similar menu, depending on your device), locate the App, and tap Uninstall.
8.2 Data After Uninstallation
Data Stored on Your Device
Uninstalling the App generally removes all data stored locally on your device, including:
- Scan history and saved scan results;
- Generated PDF documents stored within the App's private storage;
- App cache and locally stored settings and preferences.
Note: PDF files or images that you have exported or saved to shared device storage (such as the Downloads folder) will remain on your device after uninstallation.
Data Handled by Third Parties
Data processed by third-party service providers (such as analytics or advertising partners) may continue to be retained in accordance with their respective privacy policies. If you wish to exercise your data deletion rights, please refer to the relevant third-party privacy policies or contact us for assistance.
8.3 Changing the Default Home App
If you want to stop using this app as the default home app and switch back to your device’s original home screen or another installed launcher, you can do so in either of the following ways:
- Change it in System Settings. Go to your device’s Settings, then find Apps or App Management and open Default Apps. Under Home App or Launcher, select the home app you want to use.
- Change it within This App. You can also open this app, go to App Settings > Help & Support, then tap Switch Back to Original Home Screen and follow the on-screen instructions.
Once the setup is complete, your device will use the new default home app you selected.
9. Third-Party Services and SDKs
To support analytics, monetization, attribution, and related functionality, the App may use third-party services such as:
- Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics)
- AppsFlyer
- AppLovin
- Pangle (TikTok for Business)
- Facebook (Meta Audience Network)
- Mintegral
- Unity Ads
- Vungle (Liftoff)
- Google ML Kit (on-device barcode scanning and OCR)
Third-party SDKs integrated into the App may automatically collect and process certain categories of information. Such information may include advertising identifiers (such as GAID), device and system information (such as device model, operating system version, and screen resolution), network-related data (such as IP address and connection type), and app event and interaction data (such as app launches and scan events).
This information is generally processed for purposes including the delivery and optimization of advertisements, attribution and measurement of advertising campaigns, fraud detection and prevention, aggregated analytics, and the provision of on-device machine learning capabilities. For clarity, Google ML Kit processes data locally on the device.
Each third-party provider processes information in accordance with its own privacy policy. You should review the applicable third-party privacy policies for further details.
10. Your Rights and Choices
You have a number of options for managing how information is handled within the App.
For example, you may choose whether to grant certain optional permissions, such as camera or storage access, and you may withdraw those permissions at any time through your Android settings. You may also delete individual scan history records within the App, clear all App data through your device settings, reset your advertising identifier, opt out of personalized advertising through your device’s advertising settings, or uninstall the App to remove locally stored data.
11. International Data Transfers
If you are located in the EEA, the UK, or another jurisdiction that imposes restrictions on cross-border data transfers, certain technical information processed by our third-party service providers may be transferred to locations outside your region.
Where such transfers occur, the relevant third-party providers are responsible for implementing appropriate safeguards as required under applicable law, including, where relevant, Standard Contractual Clauses or comparable legal mechanisms.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. Whenever changes are made, the “Last Updated” date at the top of this Privacy Policy will be revised accordingly. Where required or appropriate, material changes may also be communicated through the App or another suitable notice method.
